View The Murphy’s Creek Escape Eco Billabong
Set at the foot of the Toowoomba Range, Murphys Creek Escape is proud to introduce its new Eco Billabong — a purpose-built environmental feature designed to support local biodiversity while preserving the natural character of the campground.
This thoughtfully designed billabong has been created as a long-term habitat for native wildlife, providing a safe and chemical-free environment that encourages birds, frogs, insects and other small species to thrive. Over time, it will continue to develop into a living ecosystem, enhancing the landscape and strengthening the area’s natural balance.
Murphys Creek Escape is fortunate to be located in a region known for its rugged countryside, open bushland and rich wildlife. While we welcome visitors from all walks of life — including families, travellers and nature-lovers — protecting the environment remains a core priority.
Unlike conventional chlorinated pools, which can harm surrounding soil, plants and wildlife through chemical runoff, the Eco Billabong operates using a natural wetlands filtration system. Water is cleaned and balanced through layers of plants, rocks and biological processes, allowing the system to remain healthy without the use of chlorine or harsh chemicals. This approach significantly reduces environmental impact and supports surrounding flora and fauna rather than disrupting it.
The result is a feature that blends naturally into the landscape, attracts native species and reflects the way water bodies function in the Australian bush.
Built to Work With Nature
To bring this vision to life, Murphys Creek Escape partnered with Queensland-based specialists Eco Billabongs, who specialise in designing natural water systems that work in harmony with their surroundings. Their experience in large-scale and environmentally sensitive projects ensured the billabong was designed not just to look natural, but to function as a sustainable ecosystem.
The Eco Billabong has been shaped to resemble a natural bush rock pool, allowing it to sit comfortably within the existing landscape while supporting wildlife and improving the overall environmental health of the campground.
More than just a visual feature, the Eco Billabong represents Murphys Creek Escape’s commitment to responsible land management, conservation and low-impact tourism, helping ensure this special part of South East Queensland can be enjoyed — and protected — for generations to come.
